What goes into our Blessing Bags?
Some people may ask what goes into Tipi Loschi’s blessing bags that we hand out to those in need. If they’re just curious, or want to make their own. Here is everything that went into our 2022 blessing bags and some guidance on where we bought from. As we grow and scale up, we are vetting additional sources of bulk products such as BJ’s and other wholesalers.
Personal Hygiene Items
The base of our bags are a selection of Personal Hygiene items. In most cases, we don’t go for a masculine or feminine scent, but weigh towards neutral or unscented products. We look for travel size or hospitality supply size products so the recipient can get a few uses out of it and it still packs well into the bags.
The normal items are combo shampoo/conditioner, some sort of body wash or bar soap, a lotion, some sort of lip balm like Chap-stick, deodorant, and a pack of cleaning towelettes.
Care Items
We also include different care items per season. Taking into account the extreme temperatures, but also having basic year-round necessities.
For winter, we include packs of hand/feet warmers, thick weatherproof socks.
For summer, items for the heat and rain are included such as sunscreen, ponchos, and regular socks.
Year round we include personal first aid kits with bandages and basic wound cleaning and disinfection products, and a wind-up (battery-free) flashlight.
Snacks
We also provide a few shelf-stable snacks in our regular blessing bags. In the past we have provided beef sticks (Jack Link’s), protein bars, applesauce packets (GoGo squeeZ® or the like) fruit snacks, and a granola bar of some sort (generally chewy to accommodate for dental issues).
The Bag Itself
The choice of bag itself can make a difference as well. Generally we use the Jumbo (2-gallon) freezer bags. Not only does this allow us to put as much as possible into a bag, but also provides the recipient something they can used to keep some of their own property dry and safe.
